Exploration drilling at the Koidu Kimberlite Project for the Koidu Holdings S.A. in Sierra Leone
The Koidu Kimberlite Project is a diamond mining project located in the western part of Sierra Leone operated by Koidu Holdings S.A. Ltd (www.koiduholdings.com).
The diamonds are expected to be contained in dykes of kimberlite, a potassic volcanic rock that is known for holding the valuable stones. The amount of diamonds in the kimberlite determines if the whole dyke is going to be mined. Exploration within these dykes is therefore necessary, at the same time the drilling cuttings are sampled and analyzed by geologists. Each drilled hole is measured in depth and width after completion.
Bauer Technologies South Africa (Pty) Ltd, part of the BAUER-Group is the contractor for the exploration and is drilling with 17.5" diameter up to a depth of 350 m. Specialized equipment, manufactured within the BAUER-Group.
Currently in use is a Prakla-Rig Type RB40 which is drilling with Reserve Circulation (Airlift)- method.
